Principal Events in the life of Sister Mary Joan Loebig, OCD

 

Place and Date of Birth– March 30, 1932 – Wesley, Iowa –Rural North-Central Iowa

 

Grade School – St. Joseph School – Teachers, Franciscan Sisters of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

                          Sister Loebig’s grandparents, with others, built the St. Joseph School and Church

                          in Wesley and  secured the Sisters from Milwaukee to be the teachers.

High School – St. Mary’s Academy, Milwaukee, Wisconsin  (1946-1949) – Graduated, 1949.

 

1949 entered the Sisters of St. Francis, Milwaukee, WI, made final profession August 12, 1955.

College – Cardinal Stritch College, Milwaukee

                    Graduated in 1955 with honors, also received the Golden Key – BS in chemistry.

 

1955-1974 – Taught mostly in High School.

 

1964 – Master’s in Chemistry – University of Notre Dame

 

1971-1973 – Core member of The House of Prayer, Humility House, Davenport, Iowa.

                     Gave retreats – Pastoral minister at St. Peter’s, Buffalo, Iowa – The first Sister pastoral

                      minister, with Sister Helen Goettel, in the Davenport Diocese.

 

1974-1975 – Master’s in Religion and Psychology – University of Iowa, Iowa City – All but thesis.

 

1975-76 – Pastoral minister at St. Patrick’s, Fremont, Nebraska – Instructed catechists.

 

1976 – Entered the Carmelite Monastery, Eldridge, Iowa.

 

1981 – Solemn Vows as a Carmelite
